Cortana for Android

What is Cortana?

cortana android

If you’re familiar with Windows 10 or Microsoft’s Halo, you must have met Cortana, Microsoft’s Digital Intelligent assistant for Windows, also available on Windows Mobile. Not long ago, Microsoft decided to extend it to the android platform, and since it’s first beta release, there have been significant performance improvements.

You could say Cortana for android is an app intended to compete with Google Assistant, and of course Samsung’s upcoming Bixby which is expected to launch with the Samsung Galaxy S8. Cortana is an intelligent digital assistant with a lot of features that makes your android phone more interesting. It integrates well with android, and can help you better organize your life through voice commands.

With Cortana for android, you can easily set alarms, organize your calendar, get details on the latest popular sports games, contact people and many other things. It is a digital assistant with a great sense of humor.

Getting started

Cortana for android is quite simple and user friendly. You can set it to send you notifications on your windows PC as long as you’re signed in to your Microsoft account. This is a very interesting feature as you don’t have to pick up your phone to reply a text while on your PC.

You can also choose to put Cortana Voice shortcut on your home screen. Simply tap it: a small window will hover over the UI and Cortana will start listening, allowing you to use voice actions for whatever Cortana can do.

Personalize Cards

Like Google Now, Cortana android allows personalization settings. You can customize your experience by using the notebook feature. This helps Cortana provide better services tailored to suit your needs.

There’s an infinite number of commands Cortana can respond to, here’s a few;

  • Call ____.
  • Call ____ on speakerphone.
  • Redial.
  • Text ___: (say the message).
  • Send a message to ____: (say the message).
  • Show me messages from ____.
  • Create a meeting with ____ on ____ at ____.
  • When is my next appointment?
  • What’s on my calendar for ____?
  • Take note: (say a list of things to do, factors, descriptions, etc.).
  • Navigate home.
  • How is traffic on my way home?
  • Where am I?
  • Play ____ (artist, song, album, genre, playlist).
  • Pause the music.
  • Resume the music.
  • Play the next track.
  • Sing me a song
  • Tell me a joke
  • What is 5 x 341234?
  • Open camera.
  • Turn WiFi on/off.
  • Show me the top headlines.
  • Convert $100 USD to Naira
  • Will you marry me?

You would agree Cortana is an amazing Digital Assistant and it integrates well with android, though it would not have the same level of integration Google Now has with android, which is expected, but it does enough.

Cortana should be available on Google Playstore, but if it isn’t, you can download here

so cortana is now on the android but i noticed that microsoft tries everything possible for me not to use Chrome on windows 10 . They want me to use edge . I believe google will try the same thing with this cortana …they will find a way make it to be less efficient so we can drop it.
